Dancing on Ice - Week Two.

Week 2, well technically week 1 part 2. It was the turn of the remaining celebs to take to the ice, but before that we were treated to a simply brilliant opening from the professionals… it’s amazing how they managed to learn all the moves in reverse, not to mention mastering the art of inflating burst balloons.

Beth & Lukasz
Roar

Beth seems to have blossomed since her time on DOI, a marked improvement in her own confidence was evident from beginning to end. This new partnership is definitely our tip for the ‘ones to watch’. The lifts were incredible, we did the ol’ ‘oh my god’ whisper more than once.  The upside down dirty dancing lift (as we’ve christened it) was particularly mesmerising. A little more skating inbetween the wowing lifts would be great but for their first performance of the series it was a goody.

David & Frankie
You Really Got Me

We couldn’t remember David being quite that good, although lets face it we can’t remember all that much from 9 years ago! His skating was smooth and controlled with a consistent speed across the ice albeit a little on the slow and steady side. There were a few iffy moments where it seemed as though David had forgotten where he was but the fact he whipped out the headbanger for their first performance, with his fiancĂ©, took serious guts. A shame to see them leave these two certainly had a lot more to give.

Gary & Katie
Pompeli

We admit it, was have a slight soft spot for Gary and were looking forward to seeing lycra Lucy back on the ice. The judges comments (Surprisingly we mean Jason) were somewhat harsh. Considering Gary had only been on skates twice since taking part on the show, alongside the face he was late starting training, plus an injury over New Year he did pretty damn well. His solo skating was smooth and clean with great arm extensions, it’d have been a 9 from us for those guns alone! We’re sad to see Gary and Katie leave so soon, with a little more time it’d have been great to see just how far this partnership could  have gone.

Zaraah & Andy
Lady Marmalade

We must confess, we couldn’t really remember Zaraah from her original series but apparently she did pretty well. Easily our surprise of the night! She showed she could match Andy’s speed across the ice whilst remaining poised and in control, we loved the lifts and have a feeling this was just a taster of things to come. Zaraah dazzled throughout and has definitely put a spanner in the works with our pre-series predictions.

Sam & Vicky
Marry You

If you hadn’t guessed from all the very subtle hints, Sam and Vicky are engaged! We’re going to look past the huge portion of cheese and the mini stumbles and concentrate on just how fantastic Sam is. The speed these two moved across the ice was phenomenal and despite the previously mentioned stumbles it was mostly clean and precise. The overall performance was on par with his technical ability too, quite the package. Easily Ray’s main rival when it comes to the boys, with a little more finesse we predict Sam and Vicky might just top the leaderboard more than once this series.

Todd & Alexandra
Mama Loves Mambo

We couldn’t take our eyes off the screen during this performance, maybe not for all the right reasons though. Cheesy, camp, unsteady, all the right ingredients for a classic Todd performance. Before the series began Todd said he had improved, turns out he wasn’t exaggerating, although still a bit wobbly he’s not quite Bambi anymore.

Suzanne & Matt
Stay

Beautiful. Emotive. Stunning. We think that covers it. Just perfect.

The Skate Off

David & Frankie found themselves with the lowest public votes and were the first to leave the competition this week, not a huge shock, but still not deserved. The skate-off however was a bit more of a shock, Sam & Vicky and Gary & Katie found themselves having to skate again. We knew immediately which routine Sam would be skating, the iconic River Dance on ice, just as fast and furious as the first time around, it was a clean sweep with the judges and we waved a sad goodbye to Gary & Katie.

Bring on week 3!
